National SDS Commemorates Trans Day of Remembrance

NATIONAL SDS CALLS ON ALL OF OUR CHAPTERS AND PROGRESSIVE STUDENTS TO HOLD PROTESTS AND VIGILS IN HONOR OF TRANS DAY OF REMEMBRANCE! On Nov. 20th, the Trans day of Remembrance will be observed. A day commemorating the lives lost from senseless transphobic violence. On this day of mourning, we remember not only the lives that have been lost, but the future that we will reclaim.

As Trump orchestrates attacks on access to necessary health care for trans people, the time to plant our feet and organize is now! Trump seeks to erase the support structures that trans people use all around the country. Examples of so are when he uses his appointed government officials to remove LGBTQ support centers on campuses across the U.S, or even trying to remove health-related data from national databases like the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS).

But the trans community will always prove that consistent resistance and steadfast organizing is how we get through! National Students for a Democratic Society refuses to back down in the face of Trump’s reckless attack on trans people. As students, we believe that targeting and discrimination against queer students must be met with action! We stand on the shoulders of queer and BIPOC organizers of the past, and we will resist just as they did!
