NATIONAL SDS CONDEMNS ICE MURDER IN MINNESOTA, EMERGENCY PROTESTS NOW On Wednesday, December 7th, ICE officers shot and killed a 37-year old woman in Minneapolis. The agents have already lied about the situation and claimed “self defense,” despite video recordings showing the woman clearly attempting to drive away from the scene when the officers fired multiple shots at her through car windows. DHS and the Trump administration label the situation as an instance of “domestic terrorism” targeted towards ICE agents, but we see it for what it is: yet another instance of ICE thugs abusing their power and authority to create violence and fear within our community.

The last two months, the Twin Cities have seen an unprecedented amount of ICE agents deployed to our city. Starting with operation “Metro Surge” we saw roughly 300 more agents deployed to our communities to harass our neighbors. The Somali community has been especially targeted in Minneapolis, with Trump repeating false racist claims in order to try and justify ICE brutality. Minneapolis fought back, organizing rapid response networks, patrols, mutual aid, and protests. Now, violence has only escalated with the deployment of 2,000 more agents and Minneapolis has continued to fight back. The federal government’s escalation shows us that our fight MATTERS and is working. We cannot allow Trump to continue his campaign of racist violence while it continues to tear families and communities apart, whether that be through detention, deportation, or extrajudicial killings in the name of bullshit claims of “self defense.”

We must continue to organize, no matter what violence agents show towards us. These racist thugs in our communities won’t back down unless we make them. We must fight back to keep protecting each other. We must take care of each other.

Talk to your neighborhood networks, distribute Know Your Rights information, and have conversations about how to stay safe in the event of chemical irritants and other injuries. Use whistles to alarm surrounding neighbors of ICE presence and practice conversations with law enforcement. Phone bomb hotels hosting ICE. Visit tagged accounts to learn more. National SDS calls for emergency protests immediately across the country! Find, attend, and bring students to a protest tonight to show that we will not stand idly by as ICE murders observers, protesters, and immigrants in the street! If there isn't one near you, organize one yourself! And we plan to bring this fight to campus as we come back to campus for the Spring semester. We will continue to protest against ICE and for sanctuary campuses.
