National SDS Statement: STAND UP AND FIGHT BACK AGAINST TRUMP’S ATTACKS ON HAITIAN IMMIGRANTS!

National Students for a Democratic Society staunchly opposes the Trump administration’s latest attacks on Haitian immigrants, ripping away their Temporary Protected Status, enabling the arrest and deportation of over 350,000 Haitian Immigrants who were previously protected via a decision made by the Supreme Court.

Haiti has seen unrivaled attacks on its sovereignty from the U.S., from being the first country the U.S. ever put sanctions on to the repeated occupations of Haiti by the U.S. Military.

Most recently, undermining the sovereignty of Haiti through military coups, kidnappings, sanctions, economic interference, and austerity imposed by the International Monetary Fund, which have resulted in a political crisis in Haiti.

This has resulted in the mass displacement of the Haitian people, with many coming to the U.S. seeking safety and stability. National SDS understands that the mass displacement abroad is directly connected to the mass deportations here at home.

With every person that suffers from the displacement, there is a high school student, a parent, or a child kidnapped by ICE, and we refuse to sit idly by as the Trump administration and the US carry out this violence.

That is why National SDS is calling upon SDS Chapters and allied organizations to call actions on their campuses and, if possible, join community actions to defend Haitian International Students and Haitian Immigrants from Trump’s reactionary attacks.

DEFEND TPS!
NO MASS DISPLACEMENT!
NO MORE DEPORTATIONS!
